Nested Symbols in Sketch - Wunderlist Todo App - Let's Make That In Sketch

This series is all about learning Interface design by doing. Sketch for Mac is an amazing design tool that has greatly improved a lot of designers workflow. The goal of this series is to help people learn to use Sketch through bite-sized recreations of already established popular designs.

Sketch introduced nested symbols in 2016 and it changed the interface design workflow, in my opinion, Learning this new workflow will greatly improve your design consistency and speed. Nested symbols allow you to create a master version of a component and then make as many instances of it as you want

To create a nested Symbol, just drag an existing instance into another Symbol’s master. It’s that simple! Any updates you make to the Symbol’s master will see the changes propagate throughout your design no matter if they’re inside another Symbol or not. As well as dragging an existing instance into a master, and inserting via the toolbar item, you can also select multiple instances of different Symbols and press Create Symbol in the toolbar.

There’s no limit to how deep you can nest Symbols, but please note a Symbol cannot contain an instance of itself.
